1. Data controller
The controller of personal data processed in connection with the MotorTax mobile application ("MotorTax", "we", "our") is:

This policy applies to the MotorTax mobile application (iOS and Android) as well as to the motortax.ch website.
2. Data collected
We collect only the data strictly necessary for the proper functioning of the app. Specifically:
2.1 Data provided by the user
- Email address — only if you create an account (account creation is optional; the app remains usable in guest mode).
- Saved vehicles — if you use the "My Garage" feature: make, model, engine, year and associated cantons.
- Analyses performed — history of comparisons you have launched and saved (so you can find them later).
- Drivers in the PRO space — if you use this feature: each driver’s name, their avatar (a drawing configuration, never a photo), their usual vehicle and their trips (start and destination, date, calculated cost). This data is stored on your phone and, if you are signed in to an account, copied to our servers (see below); deleting a driver deletes their trips, on all your devices. To calculate a trip, the start and destination are sent to Apple’s maps service (as in the Route tab). If you generate a PowerPoint presentation with “Trips and drivers”, the names and costs are sent to our presentation service (hosted by Supabase) for the time it takes to produce the file. The route trace is never stored.
- Copy in your account — since version 1.2 of this policy, if you are signed in, what used to live only on your phone is also copied to our servers so you find it on your other devices and after a reinstall: drivers and their trips, the PRO space company (company name, canton, report language and styling, plate sets) and its logo, the avatar you created (a drawing configuration, never a photo) and your Route travel profile (vignettes owned, preferences, currency). Each item carries its modification date; only your account can read it. Without an account, nothing is sent. To erase these copies: delete the item in the app (the deletion propagates), or delete your account (in the app, or by writing to contact@motortax.ch) — deleting the account erases all these copies.
- My trips — since version 1.3, the trips you save from Route (“Save to my trips”) are kept on your phone and, if you are signed in, copied to our servers like the rest: the name of the starting and destination town (never an address or a position), the country, the date, the vehicle, the distance, the duration and the costs. Never the route trace, never a report file. Without a PRO subscription, the app keeps 20: beyond that, before saving, it tells you your oldest trip (by date) will be removed, and you can undo right after; it never removes a trip without telling you. You can remove a trip at any time; deleting your account also deletes the copy.
2.2 Anonymous technical data
- Device model, OS version, system language.
- Local preferences (light/dark theme, chosen language).
- Aggregated and anonymised usage events (e.g. number of comparisons launched) — used solely to improve the app.
2.3 What we do NOT collect
- No advertising tracking and no marketing cookies.
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA, AAID).
- No precise location data (GPS).
- No payment data — payments for the PRO subscription are processed by Apple or Google; we never see your card.
- No sharing with data brokers, advertising platforms or social networks.
3. Purposes of processing
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Run the app: calculate taxes, display your saved vehicles and analyses, synchronise your preferences.
- Back up your account and enable recovery of your data across devices.
- Improve the app through anonymous and aggregated usage statistics.
- Contact you if you write to us (to answer your question).
Under the GDPR (Article 6), processing is based on the performance of the contract between you and MotorTax (use of the app), and on our legitimate interest in improving the service. For account creation, processing relies on your consent.
4. Hosting and subprocessors
Your data is hosted by our provider Supabase Inc. on servers located in Frankfurt, Germany (EU region), operated by Amazon Web Services (AWS) Europe.
- Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) between the app and our servers.
- Encryption at rest (AES-256) on storage disks.
- No data transfer outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland.
Supabase acts as a processor within the meaning of the GDPR (Article 28) and the revised Swiss FADP. Details are available in the Supabase policy.
5. Retention period
- Active account: your data is retained as long as you use the app.
- Inactive account (no login for 24 months): we send you a reminder email. Without action on your part within 30 days, the account is deleted.
- Deletion at your request: your data is removed within 30 days (technical backup propagation delay), then permanently erased.
- Guest mode: no data is retained server-side. Your analyses stay only locally on your phone.
- Contact emails: retained for a maximum of 12 months after the last interaction.
6. Your rights
In accordance with the GDPR (EU) and the revised Swiss FADP (2023), you have the following rights regarding your data:
- Right of access: obtain a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Right of rectification: correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): request the complete deletion of your account.
- Right to portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (JSON).
- Right to restriction of processing.
- Right to object to processing.
- Right to withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of previous processing.
To exercise any of these rights, write to us at contact@motortax.ch. We respond within 30 days at most.
If you believe your rights have not been respected, you may lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority:
- In Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) — edoeb.admin.ch.
- In the EU: your national data protection authority.
7. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure:
- TLS encryption for all communications.
- AES-256 encryption at rest.
- Passwordless authentication (one-time code sent by email) — no password stored.
- Access control via Row Level Security at the database layer: you can only see your own data.
- Regular encrypted backups.
No system is infallible. In the event of a breach likely to entail a risk to your rights, we commit to notifying you within 72 hours, in accordance with the law.
8. Cookies and trackers
The motortax.ch website does not use any advertising cookies or third-party trackers. Only essential technical cookies (session management) may be set, with no collection for marketing purposes.
The MotorTax mobile application does not use any advertising SDK (Google AdMob, Facebook Audience Network, etc.) or behavioural tracking tool.
9. Minors
MotorTax is not specifically intended for minors under 16. If you are a minor, please obtain parental or guardian consent before creating an account. If you find that a minor has provided us with data without parental consent, write to us at contact@motortax.ch and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may evolve. Any material change will be notified to you in the app (notification or banner) before it takes effect. The current version is always available at motortax.ch/privacy.html, with its update date at the top of the page.

This policy was originally drafted in French. In the event of any discrepancy with a translation, the French version shall prevail.
Subscriptions. MotorTax PRO purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), which handle payment and billing. To recognise your subscription across your devices we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA), which receives an account identifier, the device identifier and transaction details (product, dates, status), never your vehicles or reports. This data is kept for as long as your account exists.
